Funcation math word problems.. Help?!?

For each representation

1. Determine whether the function is quadratic, cubic, exponential, or logarithmic.
2. Find a symbolic representation of the function.
3. Answer the two questions that follow the representation. Show all work.

B. The following data shows the approximate number of thousands of metric tons of palm oil produced by Indonesia y as a function of the years since x

Years since Since 1965 = x Palm Oil Production=y

x=0 y=174
x=1 y=188
x=2 y=203
x=3 y=219
x=4 y=237
x=5 y=256

3a) if this pattern continued, how many thousands of metric tons of palm oil did Indonesia produce in 1977?
b) What is the radius of the snowball, if mass is 4000?

Have you made a scatter plot of the data? This should give you the shape/trend.

Have you seen the least squares regression model? Using such a model will give

$\text{Palm Oil Production} = 16.371\times \text{years after "1965"} + 171.9$

how many years after 1965 is 1977?

I see what you are saying. Thanks it is a lot of help. But what type of function is this?

it is of the form y= A(x- B)+ C (A= 16.371, B= 1965 C= 171.9). That is the same as y= Ax+ (C- AB) or just y= mx+ b (with m= A, b= C- AB). Do you recognize what type of function that is?

If not, then what kind of functions can you recognize? (Since YOU are asked in this problem to identify the kind of functions you must know some!) Did you consider graphing the data given?
