    old man returning to college needs help with a math problem.

    by air, the distance from melbourne, australia to egypt is 2338 miles MORE than the the distance from madrid spain to bangkok thailand. if the total of these distances is 15012 miles, find the distance from madrid to bangkok.

    I need the equation to solve this problem. please help.

    Let x = distance Madrid to Bangkok; then distance Melbourne to Egypt = x + 2338

    So x + x + 2338 = 15012 ; solve that for x
