    Fraction Equation

A sum total of $5.50, is made up of 17 coins. Some of which were 20 cent coins, and the rest 50 cent coins. How many coins of each variety were there?

I know this is basic, but I can't see the way to write it up the best.

    Thanks

Let x be the the number of 20 cent coins and y be the number of 50 cent coins.

    Now x+y = 17 and 0.20x +0.50y = 5.50

Solve using either elimination or substitution.
