    Application

    The weight of a liquid varies as its volume V. If the weight of the liquid in a cubical container 5 cm on a side is 250 g, find the weight of the liquid in a cubical container 4 cm on a side.

    $\displaystyle V \propto w$

    $\displaystyle V =k w$

    Using the values stated

    $\displaystyle 5 = 250k$

    $\displaystyle k = \frac{5}{250}=\frac{1}{50}$ and $\displaystyle V = \frac{1}{50} w$

    Now make $\displaystyle V=4$
