If he needs to climb 3000 m, then he doesn't have enough food units to go to the top of Mt Everest.

he can only carry 100 food.
1food = 10 m
there is an unlimited amount of food at base camp
he cant go all the way in 1 go so he needs to put up temporary camp where he stores food for later.
by store of foof he need to get to the top
you dont need to get his down from the top
ex if goed 100m up he can store 80 food and get down with 10 food when he gets to base capm he is emty.

I don't know about most food-efficient route, but I can give an upper bound of 52700 food units by following the path in my attachment. (Assuming I made no mistakes... this is the type of problem where I find it's easy to make silly mistakes.)
Anyone care to find a more efficient route, or prove that this one is the most efficient?
