would the answer then be 3 - = 1 3

im not sure
Then go through it step by step. You want to solve $\displaystyle -1= \frac{8- 5}{y- 3}$. What is the first thing you would do?
8-5 =3 y-3=3 3 divide 3 = 1
Originally Posted by alysha230893 8-5 =3 y-3=3 If you don't know what y is, how do you know that y- 3= 3? Are you saying that y= 6? Why? 3 divide 3 = 1 So this is obviously wrong because it is supposed to be -1! Solve $\displaystyle \frac{3}{y- 3}= -1$ What would be your first step.
