$-1 = \frac{8 - 5}{y - 3}$. Solve for y.

3. would the answer then be

3
- = 1
3

Where is your value of y?

5. im not sure

6. Then go through it step by step.

You want to solve $-1= \frac{8- 5}{y- 3}$. What is the first thing you would do?

7. 8-5 =3
y-3=3

3 divide 3 = 1

If you don't know what y is, how do you know that y- 3= 3? Are you saying that y= 6? Why?

3 divide 3 = 1
So this is obviously wrong because it is supposed to be -1!

Solve $\frac{3}{y- 3}= -1$
What would be your first step.
