I would choose B because

- you can easily solve the second equation for x: The coefficient of x is (+1)
- you can substitute the term for x in the first equation

5x + 3 y = 3
x + 9y = 2 ==> x = 2 - 9y

5(2-9y) + 3y = 3

10 - 45y + 3y = 3
-42y = -7

y = 1/6 Now substitute this result into the equation which expresses x:

x = 2 - 9*(1/6) = 2 - 3/2 = 1/2
