Hi Julie has a bag containing x blue marbles and y red marbles. The ration of blue marbles to red marbles is 2:3. She adds z blue marbles. The ratio of blue marbles to red is now 2:1. Question What is the ratio between x and z? Thanks.

Hi, you have two equations: A: x/y = 2/3 B: (x+z)/y = 2/1 From A: y = (3/2)*x Substitute this term instaed of y in B: (x+z)/y = 2 x+z = 2*y x+z = 2*(3/2)*x = 3x z = 2x Therefore: z/x = 2
Thanks. So the ratio of x to z is 2:1
