5) Multiply both sides by $\displaystyle x^2 -2 $ and then move all the terms to one side. There is a solution if the directrix is positive.
6) Assign variables b,d to BM and DN. Note that the area of a square is A = length squared = 36. So length of any one side is 6.
Now express the area of the triangles in terms of b and d, then compare the them.
