# Math Help - Calculating exam targets - please help

Hey Guys,

This question is prob miles below what you guys normally do but I'm really bad at maths and could use some help.

I'm trying to calculate what percentage I need in my exams to get a first class degree (I'm a final year Business student )

My current situation -

In each module I study I need a 70% overall grade
Each exam is worth either 60% or 70%
and the remaining 30% - 40% of each module is made up of assignment work

so for example - if I have a 80% grade in a 30% weighted assignment, what % do I need to get in my 70% weighted exam to get a 70% overal grade?

Any help given would be a great help!

Thanks

Hi KingstonStudent,

Working from your example, you can set it up this way:

$30\%(80)+70\%(x)=70$

$.3(80)+.7x=70$

$24+.7x=70$

$.7x=46$

$x=65.7$

3. Me heevans if someone gets 100% in their assignments (which is very doable since you are given time, your notes and the trusty internet) you only have to get roughly 58% in the exams to get a first...

Makes me wish I'd not left mine till the last minute...

4. Thanks Guys!

Huge help
