# Thread: distance, time and speed problem

1. ## distance, time and speed problem

Can some one help here please...

Peter leaves Pirate's point at 10.00am and walks to a treasure 4.5km away at a speed of 5km/h. Charlie runs at 12km/h towards the same treasure which is 9km away from him.
At what time must Charlie leave Captain's Head in order to reach the treasure at the same time as Peter?

Many thanks,

Natasha

Sounds like a homework question so:
km/h is how many kilometer's one travels in an hour.

Given Peter leaves at 10.00am - at a speed of 5km/h an hour, what time does Peter reach the treasure?

Now, how long would it take Charlie to travel his distance?

Peter takes 4.5 km/5 km/h to reach the destination. That means he reaches
at 10 . 54 am.
Carlie takes 9 km/12 km/h i.e. 45 m.
So to reach the destination at 10.54 am, he must start at ........?

4. 10.09 Thanks a lot sa-ri-ga-ma... and MasterPJ you are just mean!

5. MasterPJ told you how to do the problem, Sa-ri-ga-ma just did the arithmetic for you. Was MasterPJ mean because he assumed you could do arithmetic?
