Percentage Problems

Hi i have three percentage problems that i am having trouble with. They go as follows:
1. An employee of a consulting firm received a 4% raise in 2004 and a 2.3%
merit increase at the end of 2004. She now earns $2670.82 per month. What
was her monthly wage before the 2003 increase?

2. After selling their house and paying a commission of 5.00%, the owners
received $228,950. What was the actual selling price of the house?

3. 175 ml of pure salt is added to 300 ml of a 23% saline solution. What is the
new percent of salt in the solution?

I have the answer but i wasn't sure about the work i did because i sort deviated from what my teacher taught me which was to use the formula A=RT (where A= amount, R=rate, T=total)

Let "m" be her monthly wage before the 2003 increase. A 4% raise would be .04m so here monthly wage after the increase is m+ .04m= 1.04m. The 2.3% in 2004 is 2.3% of that and so is .023(1.04m). Her monthly wage after that increase is 1.04m+ .023(1.04m)= 2670.82. Solve that for m.

Let the selling price be "p". The commission is .05p. After paying that she received p- .05p= .95p= 228950. Solve for p.

Originally, there was .23(300) ml of salt in the solution. Adding 175 ml of salt increases it to .23(300)+ 175 ml. Since the salt dissolves completely, it does NOT increase the volume of the solution. The new percentage is (.23(300)+ 175)/300.

The scientific answer to problem 3 is 26.5% by wt. @ 25 deg C because enough salt is being added to saturate the solution
