4x-2=7x-6
Answer: x=-1
2r-6=7r+24
Answer: r=6?
Hi Hoiguy. Nice to see you back.
For (1), you are way too off the solution.
$\displaystyle 4x-2 = 7x-6$
add 6 on both sides
$\displaystyle 4x-2+6 = 7x-6+6$
this gives:
$\displaystyle 4x + 4 = 7x$
subtract 4x from both sides:
$\displaystyle 4x+4-4x = 7x-4x$
this gives $\displaystyle 4 = 3x$
therefore $\displaystyle x = \frac{4}{3}$
For (2), you were almost there.
$\displaystyle 2r-6=7r+24$
subtract 24 form both sides:
$\displaystyle 2r-6-24 = 7r+24-24$
this gives you:
$\displaystyle 2r-30 = 7r$
subtract 2r from both sides:
$\displaystyle 2r-30-2r = 7r-2r$
this gives you:
$\displaystyle 5r = -30$
So:
$\displaystyle r = -6$
Please show a little bit of your work so that one can figure out where exactly you are unclear about the question!
