# Math Help - Amount of Weekly Sales for 2 Salespersons?

1. ## Amount of Weekly Sales for 2 Salespersons?

Salesperson A's compensation for any week is $360 plus 6% of the portion of A's total sales above$1,000 for that week. Salesperson B's compensation for any week is 8% of B's total for that week. For what amount of total weekly sales would both salespeople earn the same compensation?

Last one for today:-)

From this we are given 2 equations (I assume you know how to solve a system of equations):

For sales person A: y = 360 + .06(x - 1000)
For sales person B: y = .08x

Now we need to find out where these equation are equal. Setting them equal (substituting y for y) we get:

360 + .06(x - 1000) = .08x
360 + .06x - 60 = .80x
300 + .06x = .80x
300 = .02x
x = 300/.02 = $15000 in sales for each. y = .08x = .08(15000) =$1200 in compensation for each.

3. ## Got It.

I got stuck on the Salesperson A's formula. When it says that it is 6% above total sales of \$1000...I did not write that as x-1000....

But all is clear now.
