The power (or exponent) of a number just tells us how many times to multiply the number by itself, so:

    (-4)^3 = (-4)(-4)(-4) = -64

    -4^3 = -(4)(4)(4) = -64

    (-6)^3 = (-6)(-6)(-6) = -216
