Thread: Absolute values HELP!

hello, im new to this forum

i have a test in a week, and i dont know how to solve this question:
|2x+6|= 3x-1

can you guys solve it for me. i get the answer of 7 and -1, but the textbook says for some reason it is only 7 is the answer.

Put x = -1 into your original equation.

Is |4| = -4?
