$\displaystyle

y=2x^2-6

$

$\displaystyle

y=x-3

$

$\displaystyle

2x^2-6=x-3

$

$\displaystyle

2x^2-x-3=0

$

$\displaystyle

(2x-3)(x+1)=0

$

$\displaystyle x=-1 or x=1.5$

so they meet at -1 and 1.5. you can see this on a graph when the two graphs cross each other
