Question Hi Everyone, Plz help!! :(

    Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. I really want to do a bachelor of science at university, but as most of you would probably know you need to have done Math B to get in.

I have been out of school for a couple of years now and to be honest even when i was in school I wasn't the best student!

So i am having a hard time finishing the pre enrolment assessment to get into the tafe course.

If someone could give me a hand with few of the questions that would be awesome... i have some that i would like to check the working of, but unfortunatley they are at home and i will need to post either tonight or tomrrow... but these are the ones that i just can't work out at all... plz help me!!!

    THANK YOU!

    b) (3x^2)^4 multiply the exponents and find the fourth power of 3

    This gives us 81x^8

    d) Divide everything by two. This gives us (4x -3(x+2) +10)/4 Next we add and subtract... (x + 4)/4 And that's it

    10 a) This becomes x^2 + 4x = 21 which becomes x^2 +4x -21 = 0

Now we use the quadratic equation. Look it up if you don't know it.

(-4 plus or minus the square root of four squared plus 84) divided by two

The radical comes out to square root of 100, which is ten, so we have -4 plus or minus 10 divided by two. Factor out the two and you get -2 plus or minus 5, which gives us 3 and -7.

    10b) multiply the first fraction by 2/2 and the second by 3/3. This gives us 2x-2 - 3x -3 = -1x -5 = 6. Add five to each side, -1x = 11. Now divide by -1. x = -11.

    11. You've got a good start but I don't feel like graphing it

Honestly dude, I would go to the library or bookstore and get you a nice book with all this stuff. Looks like you need a real refresher.

    Red face Thanks...

    I'm not a dude, i'm a chick!

and tell me about it. I am going to get a book to refresh, but i really need to enrol in the subject ASAP...

Thank you for your help, i got a little bit out of what you told me.

But i think you're a bit smart for me, and some of it went over my head. I had a look at the quadratic equation, but i miss good old school text books which had easy examples after it, so you could see how it made sense. lol.

Thanks for taking the time to answer anyway!

    Hey, no prob...

Where did you look for the QE? Found this within thirty seconds of searching: The Quadratic Formula Explained

    Examples and everything...

There is no shortage of sites like this on the internet that do a good job of explaining, with examples. You just gotta look!

These pre-enrolment questions are designed to test your suitability for the course. If you get other people to help you with them, the point of these questions is defeated ....

    Sorry, thread closed.
