1. Word problem regarding simulateous equations again.

2 questions here.
1 number is 9 times another number. The sum of the numbers is 260. What is the smaller number.
If you are to use X &Y I am lost here. Or do you???

Also.
The perimeter of a rectangle lot is 200 meters. The length is 25 meters more than 2 times the width. Find the length of the lot.

Lost on this one also,
Fully explain so I can understand it, thanks.

$\displaystyle x$ is one number, the other is $\displaystyle 9x$ as it is 9 times bigger.

Now $\displaystyle 9x + x = 260$

Can you finish it?

The perimeter of a rectangle lot is 200 meters. The length is 25 meters more than 2 times the width. Find the length of the lot.

lets say width is $\displaystyle x$ therefore length is $\displaystyle x + 25$

$\displaystyle P = 2(l+w)$

From what we know $\displaystyle 200 = 2(x+(x+25))$

Expand and solve.

If 25 more than 2 times the width, isn't that 2x + 25 ?

Yep, must have read over that a little quick.
