Pass what information, and to whom?

A friend of mine has asked for some help and I don't know enough about it so I'm trying to source the information from people who know maths best.

    I ended up here.

But if either of you can't solve 11/12 - 1/7, then there isn't much
we can do, as this is not a classroom....

I don't use maths at all nor do I care for it.

I'm just trying to help out a friend.

It looks to me like your friend has extensive troubles that cannot be easily addressed here at MHF. Simply posting solutions to these questions is not going to help. I think your friend would be well advised to go to her teacher to get extra help.

Maybe I've posted a question I shouldn't of and it seems too easy. I wasn't entirely sure which questions they needed help with.

As I've said a number of times already, I'm just relaying the information, I don't know anything about it.

Any actual help someone can provide in the way of workings etc. would be appreciated.

When adding or subtracting any fractions you have to get the denominator the same on all equations.

So for the first one, the easiest thing to do is times 12 by 7 which equals 84. So now you need to get both sides to 84. And remember to do the same thing to the top as the bottom. So 12 times 7 = 84, so 11 times 7 = 77. For the other side, 7 times 12 = 84, so 1 times 12 = 12.

Now it's 77/84 - 12/84 which comes to 65/84 (keep the denominator the same) which I don't think can be simplified.

For the second one you need to convert each one to an improper fraction. To do that multiply the bottom number in the fraction by the main number and add the top number of the fraction. So the first one is 5 x 4+4 = 24 and keep the denominator as in the original fraction, so 24/4. Do the same for all the numbers then make the denominator the same for all (as explained before) and then add and subtract the top numbers.

3rd equation just convert all to improper fractions. To multiply just multiply top and bottom of each fraction, then to divide turn the dividend upside down and just multiply.

Look, you're saying that this friend needs help but you don't know which of the questions you posted she actually needs help with? And people will be spending their time answering things that might not even need answering.

It is not reasonable to expect people to reply under the current circumstances. And as I said before, your friend appears to have significant troubles that MHF cannot resolve. Posting solutions to these questions is not going develop your friends understanding.

Here is what you do. You tell your friend to go to her teacher and ask for help. You tell your friend to post the questions she actually needs help with herself, using a school computer if she doesn't have one at home.

Thanks to those who actually provide an answer/help.

Alot of you have been incredibly useless.

Most of all, you, self proclaimed 'mr fantastic'.

For a forum with 'help' in the URL it has been a huge waste of time.
