Investment in accounts
Franny invested in two accounts. The first account had a gain of 3% for the year. Unfortunately, Franny invested 10,000 more in the second account that lost 4% on the year. If Franny showed a loss of \$454 for the two accounts, how much did she invest in each account?

I need some help setting it up any ideas?

Franny invested in two accounts.
The first account \$\displaystyle (A)\$had a gain of 3% for the year.
She invested 10,000 more in the second account \$\displaystyle (B)\$ that lost 4% for the year.
If Franny showed a loss of \$454 for the two accounts,
how much did she invest in each account?

Let \$\displaystyle x\$ = amunt invested in account \$\displaystyle A.\$
Let \$\displaystyle x + 10,000\$ amount invested in account \$\displaystyle B.\$

She gained: .\$\displaystyle 0.03x\$ dollars in account \$\displaystyle A.\$.

She lost: .\$\displaystyle 0.04(x +10,000)\$ dollars in account \$\displaystyle B.\$

Together, she had a net loss of \$454:

. . . . \$\displaystyle 0.03x - 0.04(x+10,000) \;=\;-454\$

I assume you can finish it . . .
