Please, look at the picture below. Sorry it's messy, but that's how it goes. You divide the first thing and the answer will be the second thing.

As for #2, you take the remainder (-1) and put it on top of what you divided with..

Do you understand?

$\displaystyle \frac{3x+2}{x+1}=\frac{(x+1)+(x+1)+(x+1)-1}{x+1}=3-\frac{1}{x+1}$
