Smile Elementary Algebra Problem - Solving Inequalities

Solve using the addition and multiplication principles.

    x -1 < 1
    2 7

The 7 is supposed to be under the 1

My math teacher was talking about using multiplication adn multiplying everything by a number to help get rid of the fractions but i cant remember to save my life what he was talking about when he quickly showed me after class.

    Hi

    \frac{x}{2}-1 \leq \frac17

If you multiply both members by 2, which is a positive number, you do not change the sense of the inequality

    2 \times \left(\frac{x}{2}-1\right) \leq 2 \times \frac17

    Expanding
    x-2 \leq \frac27

    x \leq 2 + \frac27
