So no, $\displaystyle y \neq 3$.

Well, checking the solution $\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}+\frac{7}{3}=2+\frac{1}{3}$ $\displaystyle \frac{3}{6}+\frac{14}{6}=\frac{6}{3}+\frac{1}{3}$ $\displaystyle \frac{17}{6}\neq\frac{7}{3}$ Therefore y cannot be 3
