Please let me know if the following is true: 1/2 + 7/y = 2 + 1/y. I have Y=3?

$\frac{1}{2} + \frac{7}{y} = 2 + \frac{1}{y}$

$\frac{7}{y} - \frac{1}{y} = 2 - \frac{1}{2}$

$\frac{6}{y} = \frac{3}{2}$

$12 = 3y$

$y = 4$.

So no, $y \neq 3$.

Well, checking the solution

$\frac{1}{2}+\frac{7}{3}=2+\frac{1}{3}$

$\frac{3}{6}+\frac{14}{6}=\frac{6}{3}+\frac{1}{3}$

$\frac{17}{6}\neq\frac{7}{3}$

Therefore y cannot be 3
