    Factoring expressions

    Hello guys,

    The question is:

The following expressions are quadratic expressions. Factorise them, i.e put them in into 2 sets of brackets.

    1) x ^2+4x+3
    2) x ^2-12x+20

    Any tips?

    Thanks

You must write them in the form:

    (x-a)(x-b)= x^2-(a+b)x+ab

    Thus if x^2+4x+3 = x^2-(a+b)x+ab, can you find a,b?

    Likewise for the other.
