well, I may have made a mistake, but I was able to factor the equation to

$\displaystyle \frac{2(-x^2+1)}{(x+1)^2}$

But that doesn't simplify any further, unless you consider it being factored as being "simplified". - Jan 23rd 2010, 09:46 AMskeeter

$

$\displaystyle \frac{-2(x^2-1)}{(x+1)^2}$

$\displaystyle \frac{-2(x+1)(x-1)}{(x+1)^2}$

$\displaystyle \frac{-2(x-1)}{x+1}$
