    You need to find y the amount of votes Tara recieved given y = x - 3949 where x is the amount of votes in total.

    So we must find x first

     55\% \times x = 3949

     \frac{55}{100} \times x = 3949

    Can you take it from here?

    I think I got it...

    .55x = 3,949

    which means x = 7,180 and.....

    7,180 - 3,949 = 3,231?

    edit for a thank you.
