    truncating square roots

    Let k = sqrt(7) + sqrt(5). Truncate k to two decimal places.

    Google the Babylonian Method for evaluating square roots.

    Bascially it's divide, check, average...

    But I need a "number sense" type shortcut that doesn't involve pencil and paper. Strictly mental math.
