# Math Help - Fractions as powers

1. ## Fractions as powers

$8^{\frac{1}{3}}$

2. $x=8^{\frac{1}{3}}$

$x^3=8^{\frac{1}{3}}8^{\frac{1}{3}}8^{\frac{1}{3}}= 8^{\frac{1}{3}+\frac{1}{3}+\frac{1}{3}}$

$x^3=8^1=8$

x= the cube root of 8

1(1)1=1
2(2)2=4(2)=8
3(3)3=9(3)=27 etc

$8^{1/3}$ means the cube root of $8$
so $2^3 \Rightarrow 2*2*2 = 8$
