Recall that percentage is just a fancy word for "out of a hundred", so it is really expressing a number as a fraction where the denomenator (the bottom number) is 100. Then we replace the /100 with %. To change a decimal to percentage, you just multiply by 100, which amounts to moving the decimal point two places to the right. To change a percentage to a decimal, you do the opposite, divide by 100, which is moving the decimal point 2 places to the left.

**convert 0.23 to a %**

0.23 = (0.23*100)% = 23% ......................Note, we could have expresses 0.23 as 23/100, and so the percent would just be the top number, namely 23, so we get 23%

**convert 1538 to a %**

1538, this is a weird example, but 1538 = 153800/100 = 153800 %

**convert 1/5% to a decimal ( i think it is .0020)**

(1/5)% = (1/5)/100 = 1/500 = 0.002, you were right!

**Solve the portion 12% of 600**

12% of 600

Rememer, 12% is just 12/100 and in math, "of" means "multiply"

so 12% of 600 is:

(12/100) * 600 = 12*6 = 72 .................note, * means multiply

**Solve the rate (round to nearest tenth % 66 is _____% of 900**

Remember! "of" means "multiply", % means "/100"

Let the unknown percentage be x

=> 66 = x% * 900

=> 66 = x/100 * 900

=> 66/900 = x/100

=> 100(66/900) = x

=> x = 7.333333333333333% = 7.3 % to the nearest tenth
