At the school play on Friday night, 120 tickets were sold. Student tickets cost $5 each and Adult tickets cost $7 each. The total sales for the evening were $670. How many of each type of ticket were sold?

How would I write a system of equations that represent this problem?

Let : x = student ticket and y = adult ticket

So :
1) total 120 tickets means that ..... (related to x and y)

2) total money $670 means that....(related to x and y, if you sold x @ $5 and y @ $7 )

let y = adult ticket

x + y = 120 -------> number of tickets sold
5x + 7y = 670 -------> price of tickets sold


solving you should get y = 35 & x = 85
