    Let x be the number of people killed by tsunamis between Jan 1990 and Jan 2000.

    2200 = (3/7)x
    =>x = (7/3)2200
    => x = 5133.33 people

    In case you're not using algebra yet, you can do this with proportions:

    2200 = 3/7 Divide both sides by 3 -- carry the result to 3 decimal places, so that at the end you can round off to 2 places.

    2200/3 = 1/7

    Now multiply both sides by 7 to get the whole (7/7 = 1)

    Round to 2 decimal places to finish.
