    Solving a system of equations with missing terms

    1.) x - y + z = 3
    x + y + z = 7
    x + y - z = -1

    row1-row2 gives

    -2y=-4
    so y=2

    row1+row3 gives

    2x=2
    so x=1

    plug these x and y values in to any row, say row 3
    1+2-z=-1
    so
    z=4

    check that they satisfy the other two also
