# Math Help - Applications of Systems of Linear Equations

1. ## Applications of Systems of Linear Equations

so i set this up doing 20x+20y=170 and 15x+15y=170 and tried to use a system of equation method to solve for this but it didnt seem to work.

1. I assume that x is the speed of the aircraft in still air and y is the speed of the wind. If so

2. The resultant speed over ground is (x-y) when traveling against the wind and (x+y) when traveling with the wind.

3. Therefore solve for x and y:

$\left|\begin{array}{l}20(x-y)=170\\15(x+y)=170\end{array} \right.$

3. ugh why do the little mistakes always kill me -_- thxs for the help!
