# Math Help - basic math problem

1. ## basic math problem

Not too sure where to post this but its a basic math problem:

Shift Hours: 8:00-15:30
Number of man hours to complete a car: 12hr
Total Workers per day: 117
Target cars per day: 80

If the target for cars produced per day where to increase to 100 without increasing the number of staff, what time roughly would be daily shift end (assume normal start 8:00) to meet this target?

The ans is either 16:45, 17:30, 18:15, 19:00 or 19:45

Many Thanks for you help!

8:00 -- 15:30, is 7.5 hours
(no break for lunch? Where's the union steward?)

117 workers times 7.5 hours divided by 12 hrs per car means that 73.1 cars can be produced this shift.

Target 100 cars:

100 cars times 12 hrs per car means 1200 labor hours.

1200 hours divided by 117 workers is a 10.25 hour shift.

Add 10.25 hours to the start time will give the end of shift time.

$
\frac{12*100}{117}
$

is approx 10.25, which is approx 10 hours and 15 minutes; therefore, the answer is 18:15

However, I feel sorry for the workers, due to them not getting breaks or lunch

4. thank you for your help guys!
