Need help with this word equation, tks
I need help in trying to solve this word problem equation. The answer is 344 M, but have no clue how to set it up.

A walkway 3m wide is constructed along the outside edge of a square courtyard. If the perimeter of the courtyard is 320m, what is the perimeter of the square formed by the outer edge of the walkway.

Ok now when it says constructed along the outside edge of the square courtyard, IT MEANS all the way around????
So it's asking for the total new size correct???

To find the original perimeter the formula is 2Lx2W=320M. Since the courtyard is a square length and width are equal; therefore, 320M divided by 4 equals 80M.

you are adding and additional 3 meters of additional walkway to each side of the courtyard; therefore, you are adding 6 meters to your original value; therefore the new length and width is 86

86x4=344

Why are you adding 3 plus another 3, I don't get that. Can you please explain further, thanks.

I know adding the 80 per side to 3 is not correct, to what I thought it was.
