I have some math work to turn in tonight and one of the problems just isn't making sense to me. If someone could lend me a hand, it would be much appreciated.

Oh, and since the LaTex isn't working right now, I used Paint to make a picture of the problem that I'm having trouble with. It's all I could think of to do.
