Rationalize and solve.
I have some math work to turn in tonight and one of the problems just isn't making sense to me. If someone could lend me a hand, it would be much appreciated. :)

Oh, and since the LaTex isn't working right now, I used Paint to make a picture of the problem that I'm having trouble with. It's all I could think of to do.

"If an investment of P dollars grows to A dollars in 2 yr, the annual rate of return on the investment is given by:

Rationalize the denominator. Then find the annual rate of return r (as a percent) if \$50,000 increases to \$58,320."

Hello, firefly_senshi6!

Quote:

Rationalize the denominator.
Then find the annual rate of return r (as a percent) if \$50,000 increases to \$58,320.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _
Multiply top and bottom by √P
. . . . . . . . _ . . ._ . . ._ . . . . . __
. . . . . . . √A - √P . .√P . . . . √AP - P
. . r . = . ----------- . --- . = . -----------
. . . . . . . . .√P . . . √P . . . . . . . P

If A = 58,320 and P = 50,000, then:
. . . . . . . . ______________
. . . . . . . √(58,320)(50,000) - 50,000
. . r . = . ---------------------------------- . = . 0.08 . = . 8%
. . . . . . . . . . . . . 50,000

When is LaTeX returning ??
