Hi, diana, li'l girl!

Here is one way. The "isolate" way. :)

So, to find the unknown, isolate it in one side of the equation. By itself, alone, no attachments.

6 = a/7

See that the unknown "a" has a 7 as its denominator. To isolate the "a", remove that denominator 7 from "a".

a/7 means "a divided by 7", so to clear or eliminate or remove 7 from "a", you multiply both sides of the equation by 7. Thus,

6*7 = a/7 *7

42 = a

or.

a = 42 ---------------answer.

----------------------------------

w/12 = 2

w has that 12 under it. That 12 divides w by 12. To clear w of that 12, multiply both sides by 12.

w/12 times 12 = 2 times 12

w = 24 ----------------------answer.

If I confused you instead, sorry, diana.
