    Re -writing equation

    Can i write this..

     -[\frac{\lambda - 48}{-4}]


    as \frac{\lambda - 48}{4}

    ?? Is that correct?

    i am unsure as to wether the negative in front changes only the denominator and not the -48.

    Yes that's right . Effectively the negative sign out the front means multiply the fraction by -1.
