The square of the sum of two consecutive odd integers is 34. Find the two integers.
Lets call the first odd number $\displaystyle 2x+1 $ so the next odd number is $\displaystyle 2x+3$
The square of there sum looks like this
$\displaystyle (2x+1+2x+3)^2$ making this equal to 34 we get
$\displaystyle (2x+1+2x+3)^2 =34$
Now doing some simplifying
$\displaystyle (4x+4)^2 =34$
Now you can just expand the left hand side and solve the resulting quadratic
