find u if c+ud is parellel to vector i.

I know the parallel bit is important but I don't know how. Would it be possible for you to explain to me how?

a vector parallel to the unit vector i will have zero for a j component.

(5i + 2j) + u(-2i - 4j) = ai + bj

what value of the scalar u will yield the vector ai + bj such that b = 0?
