Is it possible to factor (3x^2 - 4)?

I'm curious if this is possible? And if yes, how so?

The context of my problem is finding local minima and maxima and whether f(x) is increasing/decreasing.

    (\sqrt{3} x - 2)(\sqrt{3} x + 2)
