Thread: Cancelling roots when dividing.

I'm having issues understanding the cancelling in the question:

(3-(root)12)/2
I get:
(3-2(root)3)/2 This is the answer in the book but can i not simplify it further to 3-(root)3 ?

no but you can make it like (3-2(root)3)/2 = 3/2 - (root)3
