    Hello, agent2421!

    If you know Synthetic Division, the problem is straight-forward.
    So where is your difficulty?

    Find the quotient and remainder by synthetic division for: . (x^3 + 2x^2 - 7x + 1) \div (x - 1)

    . . \begin{array}{cccccc}1 & | & 1 & 2 & \text{-}<br />
7 & 1 \\ & | & & 1 & 3 & \text{-}4 \\ & & -- & -- & -- & -- \\<br />
& & 1 & 3 & \text{-}4 & \text{-}3 \end{array}

    The quotient is: . x^2 + 3x - 4

    The remainder is: . -3
