1. ## Solving a System of Equations - TI calculator?

Hi,

Quick question here - my teacher said that there is a method to check your answers when solving a system of equations (like below) on your TI-83/84 calculator but he hasn't showed how yet... I'm just wondering how because I want to check my answers...

Example: A question like solve through comparison

4x + 2y = -2
2x - 3y = 1

I got (0,1) but is there a way I can plug those two equations up there into my calculator just to see what the final answer is? I still need to work it out and whatever but it would greatly reduce the risk of making simple mistakes... well it would show me that I did make a mistake..

method 1 ... get both linear equations in slope-intercept form, graph them both, and look for their intersection.

method 2 involves matrices ... a bit difficult to explain here, so look in your owner's manual for details.
