    Systems of Linear Equations

Rita bought some washer fluid for
$.99 each and scrapers for $.69 each. She bought 6
items in all and spent $2.58 more on washer fluid than
scrapers how many of each did she buy?

    My set up:

    0.99w + 0.69s = 6

    w + 2.58 = s

Is this the right equation set up?

    Hi sharkman,

    Look at it this way.

    Let s = #scrapers
    Let w= #washers
    Total items = 6

    (1) s + w = 6

Let .99w = total cost of washers
Let .69s = total cost of scrapers
Difference in cost of washers and scrapers = 2.58

    (2) .99w - .69s = 2.58
