hi, the question is:
find (i) the quotient and (ii) the remainder when the polynomial $\displaystyle P(x)$ is divided by (x  2). compare your answer to (ii) with the value of P(2) and state your conclusion.
a) $\displaystyle P(x) = x^2 + x  3$
i did the first two bits in finding the quotient and remainder but i'm confused what you do when the the value of $\displaystyle P(2)$ is used? do you just make the polynomial $\displaystyle 2^2 + 2  3$ then what would you do after that? do you need to make the value of x in the divsor 2 as well?
i take it the answer is just going to end up as 3

$\displaystyle P(2)$ is exactly the remainder you got at (i)[/tex]
