So many things run through my head when I think about this? Can any of you break this down for me? Mucho appreciation guys!

The answer is 4 btw.

$\displaystyle 2^{x+2} - 2^x =48$

Using index laws

$\displaystyle 2^{x}2^{2} - 2^x =48$

Now factoring

$\displaystyle 2^{x}(2^{2} -1) =48$

$\displaystyle 2^{x}(4 -1) =48$

$\displaystyle 3\times 2^{x} =48$
